If November is Rainy… Visit a Museum!

There are only two seasons in Guadeloupe: dry season from December to May and rainy season from June to November. Indeed, it sometimes rain in Guadeloupe!

If you happen to visit during the rainy season, numerous cultural activities are available. You could visit a museum instead of sunbathing on the beach.

There are plenty of museums that would love to have you, such as the Schoelcher in Pointe-à-Pitre.

This colonial mansion houses the private collection of Victor Schoelcher (1804-1893). Tireless activist who chaired the committee for the abolition of slavery, he is the author of the decree of April 27th, 1848 that made the abolition a reality.

Every day from 8 am to 5 pm, you are welcomed to peruse through Greek and Roman statues and objects pertaining to the abolition of slavery.

Festival of Women Cooks

For the past 90 years in Guadeloupe, the Festival des Cuisinières
(Festival of Women Cooks)created in honor of  St.Lawrence,
Patron of cooks–makes the streets of Pointe-à-Pitreteem with flavours,
rhythms and colours.

It is of course the occasion for many a gourmet to present and enjoy
local specialties. Adorned with beautiful traditional dresses,
scarves and bandanas, stoves parade with their finest traditional jewellery.This procession leads cooks
toward the Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul where their flowers and ustensils are blessed.
