The islet that shares its name with the nearby town of Gosier is very easy to get to. So easy in fact that many locals start their day with a swim or a kayak paddle there and back from Datcha Beach. You can do the same or explore the coral reef surrounding the islet by renting a craft from the kayak club located right on the beach. Datcha Beach—offering a stunning view of the islet and Basse-Terre—is lit up seven days a week until eleven o’clock. It also houses two restaurants where you can sample succulent local rum-based dishes while comfortably seated on a deck overlooking the ocean. At Le Bord de mer Restaurant, be sure to try the ti-punch miel (a drink made with white rum and local honey) and the ragout de chatrou (octopus stew) or the fish court bouillon.
